Kintsugi

Kintsugi - An art form which repairs broken pottery and chinaware yet retains the marks of the original break by using gold in the scars. The literary translation being "golden joinery"

The idea of Kintsugi (also known as Kintsukuroi) is to create something unique and beautiful from that which could be considered flawed.

The process of Kintsugi cannot be rushed. It is a gentle and almost spiritual art form which respects the beauty of the piece and the value of the gold used to repair it. The outcome should celebrate the breakage, not be an invisible repair.

The principals of Kintsugi are also used to support a lifestyle of acceptance, balance, and appreciation of a body which may be other than socially perfect. A person or body which is perfectly imperfect. Take the caesarean scar or stretch marks which delivered a beautiful child. The wrinkles and laughter lines on a face which has lived a full life of joy and sorrow. All things to be celebrated, not wiped away.

Kintsugi may not be a restoration of a piece of chinaware or porcelain, it is more a rebirth of another form of beauty and value.
